Faed replies, in part, to the Rev. Oliver: "You are quite right in supposing my picture of "Auld mare Maggie" was suggested by Burns. His beautiful poem of "The auld farmer's New Years salutation to his auld mare Maggie" and the first verse of which is the subject of my picture. ..."
